Ear Pinning Surgery
Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear.
Otoplasty can correct a defect in the ear structure that is present at birth that becomes apparent with development or it can treat misshapen ears caused by injury. Ear surgery creates a natural shape, while bringing balance and proportion to the ears and face. Correction of even minor deformities can have profound benefits to appearance and self-esteem.
This surgery usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. This operation is typically done on children between the ages of four and fourteen, however, if you are an adult you can obtain an evaluation to see if you are a candidate for this surgery. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery is completed, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient.
